Notes from the Worktable

An open botanical sketchbook, paints and tea beside a glowing woodland scene at the worktable.

Sometimes a collection begins with a story. Sometimes it begins with two colors I can’t stop thinking about.

It might be something I notice while I’m out with my wife, a conversation with my daughter, a favorite flower, or a book that leaves me wondering what might be waiting beyond its last page. I follow that little spark and see where it takes me.

This is where I’d like to share some of those beginnings.

Welcome to The Studio Journal—a place for the stories behind Lost Treasure Designs, the ideas I’m exploring, and the small discoveries that happen along the way.

There’s a little of that already in every collection. Moonlit Woods began with a path and seven woodland animals. Cozy Coven grew from a conversation with my daughter about her style. Other collections started with something as simple as lavender against cream, with just a little sage tucked among the flowers.

I like that there isn’t one way an idea has to begin.

Here, we’ll take a closer look at those inspirations and the choices that help a collection find its character. I’ll share what I’m working on, introduce new paper worlds, and leave room for the creative community growing around them.

If you’re looking for measurements, assembly guides, and projects to try, you’ll find those in The Library. Here in the Journal, pull up a chair and spend a little time with me before the cutting and folding begins.

I hope these notes help you notice your own small sparks, too. A color you love. A detail you nearly walked past. An idea you haven’t quite found a use for yet.

Sometimes that’s all the beginning you need.
